More Movies I watched from NetFlix

I saw the movie "The Dukes of Hazzard" & the remake with Billy Bob Thornton of "The Bad News Bears."
I have to say I didn't expect much from either movie and had fun watching both! They were straight up silly and fun and some times that is exactly what one needs is to laugh for the sake of laughing. Getting these for free through a NetFlix deal from a friend made them whorthwhile!

Burning Scalp

I had the weirdest experience at my hairdressers yesterday!
She used the usual dye on my hair and as I was sitting under the dryer to let the dye set, my head began to burn! Like my scalp had a chemical burning feel.
I tend to have a high threshold for pain so I didn't jump up and freak out. I just moved out from under the dryer for a bit of relief. It burned through the wash and rinse and as I told my Hairdresser she said how funny that my scalp wasn't even pink!
It was then I feared it might suggest an oncoming migraine. The migraine never came and now I am wondering if it was just an odd perimenopause thing!

Oprah confronts James Frey

I am certain I am not alone in feeling lied to by the author-James Frey in his book/Memoir 'A Million Little Pieces.'
It was the last book on Oprah's book club list & I being an avid reader read those books as well as my choices.
I am ashamed of James for lying to the public and I now feel differently about his work.
Because of this, I have his second book awaiting me at the library-'My Friend Leonard' & I will not read it!
If it was published as a Novel I would!
I'm glad James got caught by Smoking Gun and I hope this causes more people to insure their work is as honest as can be!

Awesome Movies to see this year!

A Very Dear friend of mine gave me a free subscription to NETFLIX for Xmas. I have been using it like mad! Last night was the most outstanding movie night I have experienced maybe EVER!
I saw: "War of The Worlds," "Flight Plan" & "Crash."
If you see no other movies this year you have to see these! Steven Spielberg did his best work on this dynamic piece! War of the Worlds will keep you on the edge of your seat!
I was frightened for the first time as an adult watching a movie and even my Cat learned scare for fear!
Nice to see Jodie Foster back on the screen!
She doesn't disappoint either! The cast is excellent and the story line intriguing! Jodie waits for good movies and she gave it her all on a film worth watching!
Crash-is the ultimate movie and should be seen above any other movie this year! It is moving and touching and stimulates all the feelings we have about other people! A MUST SEE!

We Saved a Memorial Flag from the Good Will

The Good Will is a Great place to go when looking for creative ideas for Halloween Costumes, or for many of us when we started out on our own. But it is not a place to deposit military, war, or Veteran artifacts. I was luckily called-how they knew me and home phone number I know not-by the local Good Will deposit center because someone had just dumped a casket sized regulation folded flag in it artifact box labeled: Cadet Nurses Corps WWII!
I am so grateful they called and luckily I had a VFW buddy close by who stopped in and claimed it. We will find it a good, respectable home!

An Evening of Phone Calls

I jokingly call myself the only woman I know who wasn't born with the Phone Gene! I really hate talking on the phone and it takes all my effort to do so. Last night I wound up being on the phone with one person, discussing VFW issues, for so long I decided, when the call was finished, to go to bed!
I am much more comfortable Emailing and talking in person. See, an Email isn't going to come to someone at the wrong time because they open it up when they want, but phonecalls always seem to come at the wrong time!

2 Days of No Rain

We have broken our streak of rain. For two days we haven't had any! Children have been outside to play and the temperature has been about 50.
My house still feels like it sucked in all the cold though!
I'll have to put on a fire, but I'll be popping out to Portland to see if I can pick up some Marine rank patches. The VFW Post next town over has a funeral for a grandparent of a member and the grandparent was a Marine. The family wants to bury him in his uniform, but noticed his ranks aren't up to what he was before leaving the service. I volunteered to see if I can locate them.

A Little Excitement!

Wow! I just got a voicemail from the Senior Editor of the VFW magazine! He wants to run an article I sent him, with photo of a Nat'l Guardsman I membered up at his Purple Heart Ceremony last year! Better late than never!

Mid-Week Movies

I watched 'Alfie' & 'Beyond the sea' last night.
Both were interesting movies. 'Alfie' is set on the escapades of a character Alphie and his sexual prowess with the opposite sex. Some touching and yet provocative moments such as when Susan Sarandon's character tells him tonight isn't a good night to stay at her place when he realizes someone in in her bed and checks, he asks 'what does he have that I haven't got?' and Susan's character says 'He's younger than you!'
'Beyond the Sea' is about the life of the Great Bobby Darin. Kevin Spacey is again at his best and the interesting way they approach his past using the young Bobby Darin to bring the older one through his past is indeed interesting.
Both good films with great writing, those who only watch movies for action beware! These a dramatic thinking films!

Rain

I never realized how calming rain can be! It has been raining 23 out of 24 days here in the Pacific Northwest and I have to say it is splendid weather to sit by a fire and read. Those having to work in it may not like it, but at least some of us are appreciating the weather!

What a Weekend!

This weekend I was off to Albany, Oregon for the Military Order of The Cooties Grand of Oregon Council of Administration-CofA as we call it. The Cooties are the Honor Degree of the VFW and though we play very hard, we work hard too.
We had a Roast/Testimonial for our Grand Commander that brought laughter and silly stories and I am certain, as he just called to thank me for my part, he enjoyed it the most!
Now to get to work on Cootie Pup Tent issues!

I am a part of the planning and production of the Testimonial and am looking forward to that evenings events.

My Freaking Luck!

So I'm all Jazzed because 'Commander-in-Chief' is finally coming back on after a long break during the holidays! I decide to take my evening shower before hand and then I can sit and enjoy my show before bed!
So, I am drying myself off and I notice I cannot hear a sound of the NOVA show I left going in the livingroom. I pop in there quickly only to find my TV saying it is trying to acquire a satellite signal, so I run back into my bedroom and turn that TV on too only to find it is saying the same thing. With only 15 minutes to air time! In my PJs now I grab a flashlight and run out to my dish in the back yard to see it has blown over and the LNA arm is now broken! UGH!! So I call my Bro to see if he can record it and at the same time raise the dish that was installed into a plastic bucket and quickcrete poured into it. My Brother wound up coming over and between us we got it up and going and only missed say this first five minutes, credits were still showing up when it came on. WHEW! Now to call DISH and tell them to come out and properly mount my dish after repairing it!

Two Down and One To Go!

I am the VFW District Commander for my District and we just had a mid-winter meeting yesterday! So that leaves just the last one in April! I didn't realize how much work there is to these volunteer organizations!

Yet Another Movie Night!

If you have kids or just like a good cute movie the 'Because of Winn-Dixie' is a must see!
I read the children's story last year and it was nice enough to finally see the flik as well! Nothing's better than a film named for the antics of a dog! Yes Winn-Dixie is a dog! I saw the movie mainly because Otis the Pet Store clerk is played by none other than Dave Matthews of the Dave Matthews Band! this is a worth while movie for all to see!
I also saw 'Fever Pitch' and all I can say about the movie is you already know what's going to go on and happen so why waste your time! I did waste my time and seeing a movie so predictable was too boring to enjoy.

Mid-Week Movie Review

I watched 'The Life aquatic with Steve Zissou' 'Bewitched' & 'Indentity."
Life aquatic was great, although I would not suggest it to anyone who hasn't a sense of humor or hasn't seen any of Bill Murray's other work. Just enjoying the scale of Actors working on this film is amazing and yet all of them brought a depth of humor to it. It's a you must see it to believe it type movie.
Bewitched was a very Hollywood made flik. Cute and of course expected to be good, wasn't great, just cute.
Identity on the other hand was intense and good and for those who enjoy a good suspense with twists this movie is for you!

My Mother is barely Tolerable

So it is New Year's Day and My Brother, his wife and my mother, visiting from Southern California, with them; invite me to go to Powell's City of Books in Portland with them. I jump at the offer! Powell's is IT for anyone who loves books and I am a very avid reader.
I have gone there many times with the Bro and his wife and we all have very different tastes in books so of course we are going to split up.
We ALWAYS set a time and area to meet back up.
I pointed to a bench and we all agreed we would meet back there in one hours time and see what we will do then. Powell's City of Books is so huge that there are maps they hand out at the enterance and I DO believe it was my Mother's first visit there; none-the less I found all I wanted to partake in to add to my reading list of 2006 and my home library and had checked out and was the first to await the family.
Megan and the Bro showed up with mom arriving Tardy as usual. Unbelievably my Mom was still looking for some books and like a stupid helpless animal she really isn't, my brother placated her in going off to find her books with her.
This is exactly why I never go places with her, but Powell's is always a must; because she HAS to be the center of attention and the idea that she has us captivated with her issue of her books is her type of thing! I hate it and tried not to fume because I had lovely books going home with me.
They had planned to go elsewhere and I did asked if they could drop me off.
Sometimes I really don't seem like my mother's daughter!
